Michael R. Gillespie

Michael R.  Gillespie, age 72, of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, December 23, 2017 at his home in Upper Sandusky, Ohio.

Mike was born on August 3, 1945 in Tiffin, Ohio to Morris R. and Martha L. (Hare) Gillespie, both of whom are deceased. He married Gayle J. Southward on September 24, 1965 in Long Island, New York, and she passed away on December 28, 2016.

He is survived by 3 sons: Mark Gillespie of Upper Sandusky, Jason (Rachel) Gillespie of Sycamore, and Scott (Cindy) Gillespie of Cincinnati, granddaughters Emily (Corey), Tiffany, Christal and Jewel, along with 3 great grandchildren Chloe, Lincoln and Jackson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and an infant brother, Tracy Gillespie.

Mike worked for over 32 years at the Wyandot County Tax Map office as a clerk.  He also worked as a locksmith and owned and operated his own business, My Keys for many years.

He was a 1963 graduate of Upper Sandusky High School and went on to serve his country in the Air Force during the Vietnam War.

Mike was a member of John Stewart United Methodist and for hobbies he enjoyed doing leather crafts, ceramics, making jewelry, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren.

Funeral services for Michael R. Gillespie will be private with Pastor Jim Stauffer officiating.  Burial will take place at Old Mission Cemetery, Upper Sandusky, where full military graveside rites to be conducted by the Upper Sandusky Veterans Color Guard.
