Janie L. Benson

Janie L. Benson, age 64, of rural Nevada, Ohio passed away on Sunday, September 18, 2016 at 10:04am at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.

Janie was born on May 15, 1952 in Tiffin, Ohio to Ora and Evelyn (Hushour) Eyer, both of whom are deceased.  She married Eric G. Benson on October 21, 1972 and he survives.

She is also survived by her two children: Scott (Raechelle) Benson, and Valerie (Kevin) Messmer, both of Nevada. Seven grandchildren: Jessica, Robert and Dalton Benson, Zach and Jeran Huston, Collin and Kaitlyn Messmer. 

Janie is also survived by her two brothers: Tom (Deb) Eyer, Johnstown and Duane (Tani) Eyer, Bucyrus.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Richard Eyer, and a daughter-in-law, Kendra (Edler) Benson.

She was a 1970 graduate of Wynford High School and received her nursing degree from Marion Technical College.

Janie was retired as a registered nurse having worked as a home health nurse for Heartland Home Healthcare of Marion for many years.  Before that she had worked in the Emergency Room at the Bucyrus Community Hospital and local nursing homes in Upper Sandusky.

Janie was a member of the Nevada Lutheran Church, and also the Wyandot East Ladies Auxiliary in Nevada, where she served at one time as an EMT.  Most recently Janie was a volunteer at Wyandot Memorial Hospital.

 Janie loved spending time with her family and friends, whether it be for family get-togethers, holidays or traveling, she always wanted to please everyone.  She was very active in the operations of the family farm.   

For hobbies she enjoyed spending weekends at Lake Erie, boating and fishing, reading, following  NASCAR, going to NASCAR races, vegetable and flower gardening, and she thoroughly enjoyed following her grandchildren at various sporting events at Wynford. She truly had a passion for life and definitely lived life to its fullest.

The family of Janie Benson would like to extend an invitation to family and friends to share in the celebration of her life with a visitation at the Benson Family Farm, located on 1779 County Highway 56, Nevada, on Thursday, September 22, from 2:00pm to 8:00pm.  A prayer and scripture reading will be held at 11:00am Saturday, September 24, at Nevada Cemetery with Rev. Tim Nilsen officiating.
